What should you write as a Web writer to make a high income?

One of the most common questions my writing students ask me is “What should I write as a Web writer?”

The online world can seem chaotic to new writers, with the low-paying opportunities highly visible, while the high-paying opportunities never advertise.

So while there are unlimited opportunities online, unfortunately some Web writers get trapped in writing ghettos, writing material that’s poorly paid. There’s no need to get stuck in a ghetto: you can get plum gigs making $250 an hour if you wish, it’s very much up to you.

Here’s what I tell my students when they ask “What should I write?”

Two points. Write what’s easy for you, and write unique, high-value content.

I’ll be going into this in more depth as this year wears on. In the meantime, I encourage you to read Writing for the Web - it offers some free coaching.

If you find you’ve no idea how to access highly paid gigs, get a consultation. I’ll lead you through the process, and you’ll be making the money you deserve to make in your Web writing career.
