The Web gives you the chance to become an instant publisher: just create your own Web site or blog, and there you are. Instant money.
Almost.
Making money with your own Web sites is not quite as easy as it seems… there’s a secret, and many writers never discover the secret.
Why? Because writers are weird. I can say this with absolute confidence because I’m weird, and so is every other writer I know. If you’re a writer and you’re not weird, forgive the generalization, but you’re the exception which proves the rule.
I say “weird” because when a writer’s paid to write, the writer will usually go ahead and write on the topic, whatever it may be. He may grind his teeth while he’s doing it, but he’ll write about water desalination plants, metabolic processes and common law without a whimper.
But turn a writer loose and let him writer about whatever, and I’ll bet you $100 to a dollar that he writes about non-moneymaking activities.
Why are writers like this? I have no idea. But here’s the big secret to Web sites/ blogs which make money: give people information on a topic for which there are ADVERTISERS.
Pick up a magazine - it’s advertising with the occasional article to keep the ads apart
Look at any magazine. Really. Go look.
What do you see?
Yes. Advertising, and lots of it.
Magazines exist only because of the advertising, and the same applies to money-making Web sites.
If you choose a topic for a site for which there are no advertisers… well, you won’t make money.

Note: these sites do not need to be fancy. In fact, plain is better. Plain, simple Web sites, with lots of your own unique articles are money-spinners.
