Web publishing: building and flipping (selling) Web sites

One of the most profitable forms of Web publishing is creating small Web sites in order to sell them. (If you want to get up to speed fast on building/ selling sites, my ebook “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza” includes a companion ebook on how to sell sites on eBay.)

I’ve got to admit that while I’m a whiz at the creating part, I tend to love my sites too much too want to part with them. However, this is good, because sites are like fine wines. As they get older, and earn more money, their Web rankings improve, so they’re worth more. :-)

Here’s the process in a nutshell:

* Choose a topic/ subject for your site;

* Buy a domain name that describes the site - for example, if you want to create a site about headache pain relief, try to include “headache” in the domain name;

* Write five to ten pages for the site - most of these pages can be articles;

* Put the site online;

* Promote the site - I usually write articles for article directories to provide links back to the site, but you can promote a site in any way you please;

* Sell the site.

The “How much?” question

When you’re ready to sell a site, just put a FOR SALE notice on it, as you would for a home you were selling.

So, how much can you sell these small sites for?

Everything depends on the buyers: how many people are interested, and how much are they willing to spend? I’ve seen sites change hands in a matter of days, usually priced anywhere from $300 to $2000 - although sites can be sold for much more. A friend asked my opinion on a site, and before I had a chance to respond, the site was sold.

The benefit of buying a site that someone else has created is obvious: you just hand over the money. The basic site creation has been done for you, and for many people, this is the hardest part.
