Web writing tools: you need a Web editing program
Saturday, March 3rd, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedMany otherwise competent writers avoid writing for the Web because it seems too technical.
“I can’t even use all the features in Word,” a friend moaned to me a year ago. “How can I put a site together?”
I pointed out to her that she HAD learned to use Word, and she was blogging so a Web editing program shouldn’t hold any terrors for her. Within a couple of hours of tinkering, she’d master a Web editor. And then she’d have an ability which extended her skills beyond those of other writers.
“Everyone’s busy,” I said. “When you can lay out a Web page to show a client exactly what you mean, it saves time. And when you can make minor changes on his Web site in a couple of hours, rather than waiting weeks for his Web guy to get around to it, you’re saving him money, and making him money. Your clients will bless you.”
Needless to say, she got to work and learned the Web editor I recommended, XSite Pro - the easiest Web editor ever. I love it, and the only quibble I have with it is that it doesn’t work on a Mac.
She’s now an XSite Pro guru. When I’ve got something I’m not sure about in the program, I call her.
The other day I reminded her that she’d been panicking about learning Web editing. She grinned. “I’m glad you talked me into it. Now, there’s something I want to show you, you’ll be amazed…”
And I was. Especially when she told me how much she was making on the gig. ![]()
