Get started in Web publishing - can you make $100 a day?

This week I’ve received several questions about Web publishing: creating your own Web sites and earning daily income from them.
Web publishing is an ideal solution for intermediate-level freelance writers who want to build a career which doesn’t depend on others. It’s ideal for you if you know you have good writing skills, and want to take your career into your own hands.
It’s a way of earning STEADY income from your words, 365 days a year. Many writers start out with a goal of earning $10 a day, and soon find themselves earning $100 a day and more.
Here’s a snippet from my ebook “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza”:
A small simple site can begin earning money for you very quickly.
As a rule of thumb, if you’ve created a site in an area in which there are
advertisers (I’ll show you how to do this by researching keywords) you can start earning five to ten dollars a day per site very quickly. Now $10 a day isn’t much.But what if you had ten sites all earning $10 day? That’s $100 a day, which is
$36,500 a year, just from ten simple sites. What if you had 20 such sites, all earning you $10 a day - or even more - in fact, some sites will earn you $100 a day?
Once you’re earning $100 a day from your sites, you’ll see it’s possible to make $500 a day, and from there it’s a skip and a jump to $1000 from your Web sites. I know several freelance magazine writers who’ve made that jump, and are now earning $1000 a day from a collection of sites and blogs. Not only are they earning much more than they were earning writing for magazines, but they’ve also eliminated hassles with editors and slow-payment - when you’re earning from your sites, you get paid immediately in many cases, especially if you’re selling ebooks from your sites.
How to get started in Web publishing - start with a single site
Just as the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step, the journey to $1000 a day as a Web publisher begins with your first site.
Creating your first site will take you longest, because you’re learning how to deploy a Web site. There’s nothing complex about creating Web sites. The small simple sites I’m talking about often contain just five to 10 pages. Once you’re the method I describe in “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza”, you can create one a day if you wish.
Make money writing Web sites
If you can use a word processor, you can write Web sites.
Many writers shy away from creating Web sites… they imagine it’s too techy, too complex. It’s not. A small simple site can begin earning money for you very quickly. As a rule of thumb, if you’ve created a site in an area in which there are advertisers you can start earning five to ten dollars a day per site. Now $10 a day isn’t much. But what if you had ten sites all earning $10 day? That’s $100 a day, which is $36,500 a year, just from ten simple sites. What if you had 20 such sites, all earning you $10 a day - or even more - in fact, some sites will earn you $100 a day? “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza” shows you how.

Web publishing: developing a money-making Web site
August 9th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedWant to make an easy $10 to $100 a day… every day, without doing much at all? Sounds like writer’s nirvana, doesn’t it?
Many writers are developing Web properties - Web sites they create specifically for the passive income they produce every day. These Web sites can be on any topic at all, as long as the topic has Web surfers looking for information.
Here’s the process in brief.
* To find a topic for a site, watch for new trends, products and events in the news. Or choose a topic in which you have an interest - it could be a hobby, for example;
* Find out whether there are monetization possibilities for the topic. Are people searching for information on the topic? Are there advertisers?
* Create a site. You should be able to create a small five to 10 page site within a few hours;
* Monetize the site with advertising.
All done.
The “find a topic” stage of the process can be a stumbling block for new Web publishers. I’ve got a tiny notebook just for site ideas which I carry around with me. I’ve got hundreds of ideas in this notebook which I’ve gathered over the past year, more than I could ever use.
I commend this process to you. If you find a topic before it becomes hot, you could be the next Internet millionaire. Keep your eyes open.

From Web writer to Web publisher: investing in yourself as a writer
July 24th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedThere’s money to be made when Web writers become Web publishers. Some overachieving freelance writers are taking this to the max.
A freelance magazine-writer friend has around 500 sites, if you can believe that. For the past three years, in addition to her other writing work, she’s had a “five Web pages a day” mantra. She creates five Web pages a day, no matter how busy she is, or what’s happening in her life. She’s building an online publishing empire.
When I asked her how many of her sites she’s sold, she said: “None, to date. I know I could get a great return if I sold my PR 5 sites, but why would I? They’re online real estate, and like all real estate, it appreciates in value over time.”
She shared one of her techniques in this week’s Fab Freelance writing ezine, “Web publishing: money for nothing - from “waste” material in your archives”.
You can read the issue online at the ezine’s archives site - remember to subscribe to receive the issues as easy-to-read PDF files.
As a Web publisher, you’re investing in yourself
Web publishing has enormous potential for Web writers. You’re making money from your words, in on-going fashion, and as your sites grow, your passive income will grow.
If you love writing, and you love the Web, Web publishing may be for you. Many of my writing students are taking on Web publishing because of the income potential.
Here are some tips I’ve given them:
* Pick a topic for a site and get started. Sites take time to grow; don’t indulge in “analysis paralysis”;
* Use easy site creation tools. If you can use a word processor, you can use NVU. The time you spend learning is an investment. Learn to do it yourself, rather than hiring someone - the DIY ability gives you immense freedom to add material, make changes, and add money-making features to a site;
* Sites take time to gain trust in the search engines. Look on Web publishing as a long-term investment - your writing retirement fund, if you will. My 500-site friend intends to spend six months a year traveling from 2009, and the other six months “working” - she’s having so much fun with her sites that it doesn’t seem like working to her.
