I’ve had several messages about my new book writing site, asking why haven’t I included anything for Web writers.

In fact, I have. Writing a book gives you credibility, so any writer benefits from writing a book. You’re suddenly seen as an expert - a cut above, so to speak, all those other Web writers. :-)

I’ve used that tactic myself - write a book, get seen as an expert.

When I wrote my book Making The Internet Work For Your Business (1998, published by Allen & Unwin), it was one of the first books on how to use the Internet for business. I first ventured online during the 1980s and joined CompuServe, the big BBS of those glory days. This was way before the World Wide Web when the Internet was unknown to most of the population. So I knew what the Internet could do for a business.

That book gave me immense credibility when it came to writing Web content, and it was easy to differentiate myself from other writers who were pitching for a Web copywriting, or a Web content writing gig.

Writing a book and getting it published can do the same for you. Many people use books in this way. The spinoffs from writing a book can include:

* Writing gigs

* Teaching gigs

* Coaching gigs

Writing a book and getting it published can lead to many things, so although you’ll make money from the book itself, the spinoffs will be much more important.

Authors (writers who write books) get respect. So if you want to boost your credibility, write a book.
