Blogs: starting a new project? Create a blog

Blogs are a super-easy way to make money, as well as to get noticed as a Web writer.
Here’s what I wrote about pro blogging (making money blogging) in a recent article in Fab Freelance Writing Ezine:
For around ten hours of work each week, the top freelance bloggers earn upwards of $1000. In word count terms, it equates to ten blog posts a week at 100 to 200 words, that is, a thousand words.
This compares favorably with respectable print freelance rates, because it’s upwards of a dollar a word. Some pro bloggers in specialist fields like health, business and technology earn $3 a word.
(See my Blogging For Dollars ebook for a complete guide on how to get started blogging.)
However, using blogging to build your profile as a Web writer is just as important. With a profile, you’re known as a Web writer. Prospective clients searching the Web for “Web writer” will find you; this cuts down on the amount of marketing you have to do. And, since the prospects have seen samples of your work, they approach you because they feel that you can handle a project that they have in mind.
Whenever I start a new project, I create a blog
I’ve found that blogs are an essential part of any new project I undertake. I created the Blogging For Dollars Blog around three months before I published the ebook - if I were writing the ebook today, I’d start it six months earlier. Blogs provide a super-simple way to get any project off the ground, and get it noticed.
For example, I’m currently working on a new membership site for authors, so I’ve just created a new blog, the Just Write A Book Blog. By the time I’m ready to promote the new site, the new blog will be indexed by the search engines, and will be drawing readers, and new members to the site.
I commend the blogging process to you: it’s a powerfully simple way to give new projects a kick start.
