Blogging For Beginners 3: Your first blog - blog platforms
Sunday, March 25th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
In our previous posts in this series, we’ve covered focus, and keywords.
In this post, we’ll briefly discuss blog platforms. Very briefly, because I’ll only recommend three, and all three platforms are free.
Why three, and why free?
Three only, because when you’re new at something, too much choice is confusing. It leads to paralysis by analysis. Blogging is just writing, and the only way to learn to blog, is the same way you learn to write - by just doing it. When you do it for long enough, you become good at it.
Free blogging platforms
Blogger: I love Blogger. My first-ever blog was on Blogger, so it’s my sentimental favorite. Setting up your first blog should take you around two minutes, tops.
WordPress.com: I love WordPress too, but nowadays I use the non-hosted version of WP, because I like having control of my sites. But when you’re starting out, with the hosted form of WordPress you get all the pleasure, without the hassles.
Terapad: a newcomer, but sure to become popular. Because it’s new, it’s very swish and up-to-date. I’ve opted for the paid version of Terapad for one of my sites. I signed up within half an hour of setting up a blog - I like the platform so much.
There you have it - three platforms, all free, all excellent.
Go on now - why are you still reading, and not creating a blog?
This ends our little series on blogging for Web writers. You’ve got all the information you really need. There’s more in my Blogging for Dollars ebook, and of course on my Blogging For Dollars blog.
Happy and profitable blogging!
Almost forgot advise you why you should start off with a FREE blogging platform
Start off with a free platform. Your first blog will be one of many. Trying out the free platforms lets you work out what’s important to you in your blogging activities, and you’ll know what to look for before you shell out any money.
FWIW, my favorite blog platform, WordPress, is free even when you host it on your own domain. However, you will of course have to buy the domain name, and pay for hosting, but it’s nevertheless free.
