Blogging For Beginners 1: Choose a focus for your blog
Wednesday, March 21st, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedI’ve received so many questions about blogging that the easiest way to answer them is to present a mini-tutorial on blogging. So here we go. ![]()
Step One: Choose a focus for your blog
If you’ve been hired as a pro blogger, you already know what you’ll be blogging about, because you’ve received a brief.
However, if you’re creating a new blog for yourself, your first step is to create a FOCUS.
Please do this first. It’s essential, or not too many blog posts from your first one your blog will fizzle out and die.
Ask yourself what your intention is, and also what your readers will get out of your blog - entertainment? Information?
Write it down. This is vital. If you don’t write it down, I promise you, your blog will lose focus, and you’ll lose readers.
Take your time over Step One. Asking yourself about your intentions and focus are the primary ways you can ensure the success of your blog.
Here’s an example. A couple of years ago, when I started my writing blog, my intention was to have fun writing about writing. My intention for the blog’s readers was to pass on some hints and tips I’ve learned in 30 years of writing.
I could waffle on about anything and everything on that blog, but I keep it focused, and so it’s successful. You can do the same.
